Over the past few years I have been continuing to revisit the concept of impermanence. Chat GPT explains Impermanence as the concept that all things are temporary—everything changes, nothing lasts forever, and all experiences, emotions, and conditions are in constant flux. Let that sink in. If we embrace that change is inevitable, then maybe we can soften the blow? I don’t know, but I do know this, finding motivation during transition can be challenging. I am personally navigating my own life transition right now and out of this transition, Motivate with Mel was born!
Every life transition comes to an end, but who we become in the process can endure. The ultimate encouragement I hold onto is this: Life transitions aren’t just something to get through; they’re opportunities to evolve into a new version of ourselves. When we shift our mindset from seeing change as challenging, to seeing it as an opportunity, we allow for potential we may not have ever realized we had.
Think about a past change you’ve been through – perhaps it eventually led you to a new passion, a new relationship, or a perspective you’re now grateful for. Often, the most challenging transitions, perhaps ones that are unexpected or take us by surprise, are the ones that push us toward greater versions of ourselves. I won’t pretend that turning change into opportunity is easy – it’s something we typically appreciate in hindsight. But even if you can’t see the whole path forward, trust that each small step is shaping you. Maybe this uncharted territory is teaching you courage, or resilience, or revealing a new dream. By staying curious and open, you allow these positive changes to take root. In my experience, when I choose to embrace a difficult transition (instead of resisting it), I find myself developing skills and wisdom that I carry with me into the next transition.
Ultimately, finding motivation in uncertain times comes down to a balance of patience and hope. Be patient with yourself as you navigate the twists and turns, and remain hopeful that on the other side of this transition, you’ll emerge fully and more fulfilled. By actively seeking out meaning and purpose as we navigate change, we can find the motivation and inspiration to move forward with purpose and resilience.
Every sunrise comes after a night of darkness. I have always said “ Joy comes in the Morning”. Follow the light. If you are in the middle of your own life transition, know this…it is not the end of your story. It might happen to be the beginning of one of its most powerful chapters – one where you discover just how resilient, resourceful, and motivated you can truly be. Can you think of a challenging transition that you can now look back at with gratitude? I would love to hear from you.
